SeaTrees Projects

SeaTrees directly supports communities and scientists who protect and regenerate blue-carbon coastal ecosystems. This includes planting mangrove trees, restoring kelp forests, coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and conserving coastal watersheds.

What Projects do SeaTrees support?

Direct SeaTree planting (mangroves, kelp, coral)
- SeaTrees currently supports ecosystem restoration projects in Indonesia, Kenya, and California

SeaTrees Token (a way to wipe out CO2 emissions)
- SeaTrees tokens are an innovative way to purchase certified carbon credits and support the development of blue carbon sequestration projects.
- Every SeaTrees Token offsets 1 VCS + CCBA certified ton of CO2, plants 4 mangrove trees, and restores 1 sq-ft of giant kelp forest.

Blue Carbon Fund (research + advocacy initiatives)
- Support for citizen science research (e.g. Reef Check - Tankers Reef)
- Scientific research to quantify environmental benefits from blue carbon projects
- Policy advocacy to enable and speed up blue carbon restoration

How do we choose our projects?

The SeaTrees Project Network is always expanding. We connect with best-in-class nonprofits that specialize in ecosystem restoration. Our goal is to support 100 blue-carbon projects by 2030.

We vet every organization and each individual project before adding to SeaTrees platform
- Evaluate projects based on depth/scope of environmental impact
- Evaluate projects based on co-benefits/social impacts achieved

We prioritize the people involved in helping us plant and protect blue-carbon coastal ecosystems. People really are the heart of the story of climate change. That means ensuring those employed to plant mangrove trees, restore kelp forests, plant coral fragments, and protect REDD+ project lands are provided a living wage.
